History and Geography

Nzega Urban State is one of the newest states in the country, created inparallel with the establishment of Nzega Town Council. Nzega Town Council was a forgotten part of Nzega District until the government decided to raise the status to Town Council in early 2014 under the Local Government Act number 8 and 9 of 1982.

Nzega City Council with one constituency, namely Nzega City Council is one of the eight councils of Tabora region which is located 116 kilometres north of the Tabora Regional Headquarters. Nzega Urban District has a total of ten (10) wards which are Itilo, Ljanija, Mwanzoli, Miguwa, Mbogwe, Kitangili, Uchama, Nzega Ndogo, Nzega Urban West and Nzega Urban East. All these wards make this state have an area of ​​690.579 square kilometres while Itilo Ward is the Ward with the largest area among the ten wards that make up Nzega Urban state.

Until now, the province of Nzega Mjini has a total of 14 streets, all of which are found in two Mjini wards, namely Nzega Mjini West (6) and Nzega Mjini East (8); while the total number of townships in Nzega Mjini province is 174 resulting from the presence of 21 villages.

Due to mining activities, the city of Nzega has become a city where many people of different ethnic groups live together. The majority of the inhabitants of this town are the Yamwezi, Sukuma, Waha and the Yiramba, whose economic activities are agriculture and cattle rearing.

According to the Population and Housing Census of 2002, the state of Nzega Urban which has only one division of Nyas had a total of 66,827 inhabitants and later reached 87,860 inhabitants in the Population and Housing Census of 2012 which is an increase of 31.5 percent of the number of the population in 2002. However, according to the estimates (approximation) for the year 2020, the province of Nzega Urban currently has a total population of 99,405 with a population increase of 2.5 percent which is less than that of Tabora region of 3.6 while it has exceeded slightly a national increase of 2.4
